Terri’s legacy of Faith

Terri’s great legacy recalls to mind the story found in Mark 14. Just before Passover and just before Jesus was to lay down his life for us on the cross. Jesus reclined at the table of Simon the Leper. A precious gift was then given showing great honor to the Lord. “A woman came in with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.”

We know that the jar and the contents were expensive and very precious. Biblical scholars speculate it’s worth to be a years wage- in those days about 300 denarii or about $54,500 by todays standards. The ointment in that jar was probably intended to be used on herself at her own burial, but she used this precious possession in an act of love and devotion to Jesus.

The disciples that witnessed this were shocked and indignant. They rebuked her harshly saying, “why this waste of perfume” and “it could have been sold… and the money given to the poor”. Jesus corrected them and told them that

This thing she had done was beautiful.

He said in Mark 14:9 “Truly, I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” Terri’s life and ministry mirror this story. Through her demonstrated love,  she challenged us to move beyond a superficial profession of faith to a supernatural walk with God. Her message still resonates today that caused her audience to question, “What am I offering God?” and “What am I holding back?” In her last book, “Fanning the Flame-Reigniting Your Faith in God,” she asks us to examine our spiritual health and walk with God.  The book offers biblical support and practical advice from her experiences, to help “reignite a Christian’s smoldering embers.”

“…and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.”

In her book and in her life, Terri expounded upon the character of Jesus and what ours might be to honor him. Isaiah 42:3 states, “A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.” We at Terri Clark Ministries continue to carry the flame that God fanned so brightly within Terri’s heart and continue with her the message of love and salvation through Jesus Christ.
