Christmas

When I looked at our church bulletin, I could not believe my eyes – – our Pastor had actually scheduled a service on Christmas Day!  And at 9:00 a.m.! Seriously? He must be kidding.
I mean, think about it. Many of us will have company in our homes, including nieces, nephews, and especially grandkids! Those pre-teen kids and kindergartners will have us up early, waking us with squeals and screams of excitement which will undoubtedly put huge smiles on our grownup faces.  We will all wander toward the Christmas tree, still in our pajamas, with the requisite cup of coffee, laughing at the kids.  Pretty soon the adults will start passing around the gifts we – excuse me, Santa, brought for each other. A really fun breakfast will follow shortly.
So, the nerve of the Pastor to schedule a service on Christmas Day! And at 9:00 a.m. even!  We will not even be out of our pj’s by that time. I ought to give him a call and remind him what a special day it will be, and why it is so special.

Oh.          Right.            …Uh, never mind.
Did I really say that? I mean, about the special day?  That is the only correct thing I said in my tirade.  Christmas Day IS special, and truly should include a visit to God’s house.  He invites us every week to visit with Him, and I am about to skip His Son’s birthday? I skip His invitation too often already.
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”  He is our Savior because He died under the punishment of our sins. He is our Savior because by His sacrifice we are forgiven of our sins. All of them. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
JOHN 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believe in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”  Heaven, eternal life, forgiveness of out every sin, are all His gifts to us.  Free to all who call out for Jesus to come into their life.

I will be at church this Sunday, Christmas Day, to celebrate the birth of my Savior.  And to give Thanks.

Anyone need a ride?

In His service,
And yours,
Mike Jared
