Uganda Drama Team '09

This lovely group of ladies was an integral part of our ministry in the Uganda Women's Conference 2009. With just three of us, Jocey Sluka, Nancy Pennington and I, it would have been very difficult to put together dramas or visuals for our messages. Jocey Sluka, of "Friends of the Groom," suggested we use women from Uganda to help demonstrate for us. What a wonderful idea! Outgoing women were chosen or volunteered to join the team and the Uganda Women's Drama Group was created.

Jocey taught them the artistic concept of "tableau" through an interpreter. Tableau is literally "living pictures" in which the audience closes their eyes in response to a bell. The drama group then takes place in a still life scene. When the bell rings the audience opens their eyes to see a living picture. Jocey used this technique to illustrate the story in Mark chapter 2 in which Jesus heals a paralytic man. It took a few hours to get the concept across through an interpreter, but the end result was powerful.

The Uganda Women's Drama Group helped me depict the necessity of a firm foundation spoken of in Matthew 7:24-29 and the difficult and tedious work of establishing this foundation. We worked for about an hour and the women did a wonderful job demonstrating the truths in the Word of God through drama.

These wonderful ladies helped to create a sense of togetherness and unity for some women who may have never even seen a white person before. Working together, we were able to bring the message of the Lord to a group of ladies in need of encouragement.
